In the Southwest of Mauritius, in the heart of a fertile valley, lies the Rhumerie de Chamarel. Here, the unique micro-climate enables us to produce magnificent rums in our distillery and from our own plantation on this eco-friendly estate.
La Rhumerie de Chamarel is one of the rare distilleries still cultivating its own sugarcane. This is carefully selected and grown exclusively for the Chamarel Rum production - here lies the first secret of its top quality.

UNIQUE, ECO-FRIENDLY SUGARCANE
The road leading to the Rhumerie is lined with vast plantations of sugarcane growing side by side with pineapples and other tropical fruits. This is all harvested by hand without ever burning the crops, from July to December. The manual selection of the various crops and their traceability allows our Master Blender to select the finest ingredients for the White Rums and the Old Rums.
The freshly harvested sugarcane is transferred within 4 hours straight to the distillery to preserve its freshness and the wonderful aromas. The first pressed sugarcane juice is then filtered and allowed to ferment. Our selection of yeasts and our tightly controlled parameters ensure the rums develop a unique aromatic bouquet.

Our distillery is a building that blends harmoniously into the spectacular natural surroundings. Wood, natural stone and water provide a sense of communion with nature, turning this distillery into one of the most beautiful rum factories in the world.
We also gladly serve our rums together with some great food in our special restaurant on-site. Everything we serve is sourced locally including exotic delicacies such as palm heart and dishes featuring deer and wild boar. As part of our philosophy of being one with nature, we ensure the local flora and fauna are well cared for and respected by all.
